A warehouse decommission is the full takedown of an installed racking system: unloading all product, systematically disassembling each bay from the top down, palletizing or bundling components for transport, and hauling everything out. For a large facility (500,000 square feet or more) this is a significant labor project that takes weeks. Smaller facilities can be completed in days. When a lease-end date is a hard deadline, a vendor who can't commit to a fixed timeline is a real operational risk.
If you're vacating a facility with a racking system in decent condition, that material has value. What it's worth depends on quantity, configuration, age, and current market demand: a million-square-foot facility with 20-year-old rack in good shape may hold hundreds of thousands of dollars of recoverable material value. Usually not. Disassembly downtime, transport cost and risk, new-jurisdiction permitting, and reassembly labor typically add up to more than buying comparable used rack already cleaned and ready to install. Highly customized or cold-storage rack can be the exception, so it's worth running the numbers before deciding.
